Just finished watching the Holiday Bowl while eating breakfast. Mediocre football, coffee, and porridge are strange bedfellows...
— Cory Hanson (@HansonCory1) December 31, 2013
Off for a nice damp stroll to the fishmonger for fresh mussels. I just like using the word 'fishmonger.' Look for that a lot today.
— Cory Hanson (@HansonCory1) December 31, 2013
Just got back from Donnybrook mussels at the fishmonger(!), fruit at the veg stand, salami at the butcher also found 18 cents on the ground!
— Cory Hanson (@HansonCory1) December 31, 2013
Fishmonger: The holiday is too long here! The fishermen take so much time off I can't keep anything in stock! (still got my mussels, tho!)
— Cory Hanson (@HansonCory1) December 31, 2013
Returned my Ant-Man comic collection to the library on my way to the fishmonger- because I'm a 12 year old boy in 1964.
— Cory Hanson (@HansonCory1) December 31, 2013
The rain let up and the sun came out. Off to the s'market for the rest of the supplies for tonight. Couldn't be food snobs about everything.
— Cory Hanson (@HansonCory1) December 31, 2013
Sara, using her Twitter account? Whaa?? That's right, I'm joining in with @HansonCory1, live-tweeting our #NewYearEve celebrations!

— Cory Hanson (@HansonCory1) December 31, 2013
Saw the mailbox stuffed with cards from family and friends in the States. It's great to have such a big network of love and support.
— Cory Hanson (@HansonCory1) December 31, 2013
Looks like we made it home just before the rain and wind blew into #Dublin- it was almost feeling hot in the sunshine there for a minute.
— Cory Hanson (@HansonCory1) December 31, 2013
Sharing a modest lunch of rice and veggies with @HansonCory1. Trying to save room for our feast this evening!
— Sara Hanson (@HansonSaraJ) December 31, 2013
Baking in a partially metric kitchen with an imperial recipe can be a headache. F to C, oz to ml, c to g...#OhLookIveGoneCrossEyed
— Sara Hanson (@HansonSaraJ) December 31, 2013
@HansonSaraJ Aha, but first, we must do dishes, my dear. #ButIDontWanna #NoDishwasher
— Cory Hanson (@HansonCory1) December 31, 2013
@HansonCory1 If you're going to make me do dishes, I get to choose #NYEmarathon material. #BuffyTheVampireSlayer, it is!
— Sara Hanson (@HansonSaraJ) December 31, 2013
@HansonSaraJ http://t.co/hpubuOlkUV Nooo! Then I get to choose next year's #NYEMarathon, #BeavisAndButthead it is!
— Cory Hanson (@HansonCory1) December 31, 2013
@HansonSaraJ As man on this house I claim the right to choose the teapot (black one) and flavor (black tea with mint) of our afternoon tea!
— Cory Hanson (@HansonCory1) December 31, 2013
Creaming butter and sugar with nothing more than a €1 whisk and elbow grease sure makes me #MissMyKitchenaidMixer.
— Sara Hanson (@HansonSaraJ) December 31, 2013
Dark chocolate raspberry cupcakes are in the oven! Now all we need is ganache to top them off. #ChocolateIsHeaven
— Sara Hanson (@HansonSaraJ) December 31, 2013

— Sara Hanson (@HansonSaraJ) December 31, 2013
Well, Buffy and co. managed to stop the mayor's ascension. Thank goodness! I guess that means it's time to clean up my cupcake mess.

@HansonSaraJ Does that mean I can lick the bowl?
— Cory Hanson (@HansonCory1) December 31, 2013
Second round of dishes. Post-baking, pre-dinner. #ButIDontWanna #NoDishwasher
— Cory Hanson (@HansonCory1) December 31, 2013
It's not really #NYE until you are wearing something sparkly and/or shiny. Good thing I have something that fits the bill!
— Sara Hanson (@HansonSaraJ) December 31, 2013
Time to start the mussels! Of course that means cooking the pasta first in the one saucepan we have... Then... Time to start the mussels!
— Cory Hanson (@HansonCory1) December 31, 2013
Mussels are done and they. look. fantastic. Twitter blackout begins!
— Cory Hanson (@HansonCory1) December 31, 2013
Although belly is now full of delicious mussels covered in butter and cream, round 3 of dishes must commence. Final dishwashing of the day?
— Sara Hanson (@HansonSaraJ) December 31, 2013
2.5 pounds of mussels: Gone. Round 3 of dishes: Done. Bottle of cheap white wine: Open. Firing up the fire and watchin' some countdowns.
— Cory Hanson (@HansonCory1) December 31, 2013
@LeighBlaize per request, a photo. Haven't cooked with real butter and heavy cream in so long I'd forgotten the taste pic.twitter.com/uLBXUYRDzg

#NewYearsResolution 1. Stop consuming media that requires less than 30 seconds of thought or time. A.K.A. Sara needs to stay off of Reddit!
— Sara Hanson (@HansonSaraJ) December 31, 2013
#NewYearsResolution 2. Attend at least 5 live events. That means take me to Reel Big Fish at the Academy, @HansonCory1!
— Sara Hanson (@HansonSaraJ) December 31, 2013
Last one: Starting a new job and reading a bajilion journal articles has reduced my fun-reading drive. I will start reading books again!
— Sara Hanson (@HansonSaraJ) December 31, 2013

— Sara Hanson (@HansonSaraJ) December 31, 2013
#resolutions actually catch a fish in Dublin Bay. This may mean purchasing some larger tackle and non doughball and corn bait. Shucks.
— Cory Hanson (@HansonCory1) December 31, 2013
Time for 2013 retrospectives! First up, Charlie Brooker's 2013 Wipe from BBC. http://t.co/WSGlArUiqz

— Cory Hanson (@HansonCory1) December 31, 2013
So...bought some "firewood" today at the s'market- wet and smoldering all the way through. At least it makes a pleasant hissing noise...
— Cory Hanson (@HansonCory1) December 31, 2013
Setting out salami, cream crackers, and Irish brie for our mid-evening snack. White wine=over and hot port is next! #awesome
— Cory Hanson (@HansonCory1) December 31, 2013
Hot Port= 1 part hot water, 1 part port, slice of lemon with 5 whole cloves stuck in it, brown sugar to taste. Great for #NYEMarathon

Sorry to see our E. Iowa friends dealing with icy cold temps, snow, and ice. Some things are nice about living on a temperate island.
— Cory Hanson (@HansonCory1) December 31, 2013
So it's come to this- watching YouTube supercuts of people and animals doing funny things from the past year. #NYEMarathon? #BetterThanBuffy

What a great New Year's Eve it was! The weather was great in the morning for our errands to the market and turned ugly just as we settled in for the night. We had great time watching internet retrospectives (as sad as that sounds) and enjoying fine food and drink together. It had been so long since we'd cooked with real butter and cream that the smell and taste almost knocked us flat. Sara made great dark chocolate raspberry cakes for a satisfying dessert. We enjoyed some Hot Port, a drink we discovered in a pub in Cork on Christmas Eve. At midnight we toasted and got to video chat with some very dear friends. Now, as promised, photos from the big day.
